Billericay Town lead at Weston-super-Mare, then the game is abandoned
Published 26 October 2026
Billericay Town's trip to Weston-super-Mare lasted around half an hour. Macauley Bonne put the visitors ahead on 22 minutes, and the National League South fixture at the Optima Stadium on Saturday 24 October was then abandoned, with the score wiped and no new date announced by either club.
That is the fact of the afternoon, and it matters because the scoreline that circulated afterwards, Weston-super-Mare 0 Billericay Town 1, was not a result. The club's own match centre lists the fixture as P-P. Billericay had travelled 183 miles and came home with a goal that counts for nothing.
What actually happened
Weston started brightly. Louis Britton had the ball in the net after five minutes when a long ball found him and he scored from a tight angle, but the effort was disallowed for offside. Britton went close again after a move down the right.
Billericay then took the lead on 22 minutes through Bonne, who had scored twice in the 4-0 win over Farnborough a fortnight earlier. Shortly afterwards the game was stopped. Heavy rain in Somerset had left the pitch unplayable, and although officials were keen to play given the distance the visitors had travelled, the conditions won.
Weston had posted a pitch update earlier in the day confirming the game was on. The club's match centre then recorded the fixture as P-P with Bonne's goal still attached to it, which is how abandoned games usually appear on a club site before the result is formally cleared.
Why an abandoned game is not a 1-0 win
An abandoned match has no result. The score does not stand, the goal does not count in Bonne's tally, and the fixture has to be played again in full. That is the difference between a postponement before kick-off, which leaves the original date to be rearranged, and an abandonment, which voids everything that happened.
For a table that is tight in the middle, the distinction is worth points. Billericay went into the weekend fourth, three points ahead of Weston. Neither side gained anything from Saturday, and both now carry an extra fixture in a season that already has a congested winter.

Scott Rogers had asked for a response
Weston went into the game after a 6-1 defeat at Ebbsfleet United, their heaviest league loss since a 0-5 home defeat by Wealdstone in March 2019. Ollie Hulbert scored the consolation goal in Kent. Before kick-off, manager Scott Rogers framed the afternoon as a debt to the club's supporters: "We owe our supporters a big performance."
He got 30 minutes of one. Weston's start was the better of the two, and the disallowed goal came from exactly the kind of direct ball the manager had wanted. Whether that performance survives into the rearranged fixture is now a separate question.
Billericay's season so far
Danny Scopes took over at New Lodge in September 2025 and led the club to promotion from the Isthmian League Premier Division in less than a full season, beating Brentwood Town in the play-off final. He was named National League South manager of the month for September 2026.
The Blues had not played since 10 October, when they beat Farnborough 4-0 with two goals each from Bonne and Frankie Merrifield. They also won 3-0 at Brentwood in the Essex Senior Cup on 13 October, and added Charlton Athletic's Finley Woodham on a short-term loan.
What the abandonment costs both clubs
For Weston the cost is mostly physical. Scott Rogers' side had lost 6-1 at Ebbsfleet the previous weekend and needed a performance; 30 minutes is not enough to judge whether they produced one. Their next fixture takes them to Farnborough.
For Billericay the cost is scheduling. Scopes had already gone two weeks without a league game, and a squad promoted last season now has to absorb a midweek fixture later in the winter, when the pitch at New Lodge will be at its heaviest.
- The result is void, so neither side carries a win or a defeat into the next game.
- Bonne's goal does not enter his season tally, which flatters nobody.
- The rearranged date will land in a month that already has cup football in it.
What happens now
The abandonment leaves Billericay with a fixture to fit in and a squad that has played very little football in October. Scopes has a settled forward line, which helps, but the backlog will test the depth of a promoted side in its first winter at this level.
There is also a rule worth remembering for supporters who saw the score on a results page. A game that is abandoned before 90 minutes is replayed in full unless the competition says otherwise, so the 183-mile journey will be made again and the 22nd-minute goal will not be replayed with it.
Billericay's next home league fixture is against Hampton & Richmond, and the FA Trophy second round brings Waltham Abbey to New Lodge on the weekend of 14 November. Neither is a like-for-like replacement for a league game that never finished.
The club's recent matches are covered in the match reports section. For the wider picture, club news tracks the division's rescheduled fixtures, and the Welling United rebuild is a useful comparison for a club adjusting to Step 2.
