O’Driscoll braced for relegation scrap

Hayes and Yeading United manager Tony O’Driscoll admits relegation is a real possibility for his side after a disappointing Easter weekend.

United suffered back-to-back 4-1 defeats to Billericay Town on Saturday and Havant and Waterlooville on Monday, which extended their winless streak in the Blue Square Bet South to five games.

That poor run has left the Surrey outfit just two points clear of the drop zone in 17th place, and the upcoming fixtures against fellow strugglers Staines Town and Tonbridge Angels have become even more crucial to their bid for survival.

However, O’Driscoll has seen enough of his players this season to believe they are capable of avoiding the drop come later this month.

“I’ve been thinking about it for a while, the possibility is there all the time,” he told the Uxbridge Gazette.

“The games coming up are against teams around us, so it’s in our hands. If you get relegated losing to teams around you, you deserve to go down. But I think effort-wise, we don’t deserve to go down.”
