Staines Town boss Marcus Gayle hopes to retain the services of skipper Dave Wheeler but admits the club won’t stand in his way if the right offer comes along.
Wheeler joined the Swans in the summer of 2011, having made a name for himself as an exciting midfielder on the books of Lewes FC.
However, at the turn of the year, Wheeler was deployed as a striker by Gayle and has found the back 12 times in the Blue Square Bet South this season.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, but Gayle is hoping the frontman sticks around beyond the end of the current campaign despite the interest.
He told Get Surrey: “We have to have confidence that he will stay.
“We’ve shown him our intention to build and he is our talisman, our skipper, and we want him here.
“He loves the club too but I’d never stand in his way, and if a club came in and paid the fee then that’s fine. It wouldn’t be extortionate.
“We think we have improved him and given him the platform to play more freely in a different position so the fee would reflect our input into him.”
