Eastbourne Borough have received a welcome boost with the news that midfielder Simon Johnson has agreed a new contract at Priory Lane.
The 22-year-old is a product of the club’s youth system and has made 169 first-team appearances to date, scoring nine goals in the process.
Commenting on Johnson’s new deal, Sports boss Tommy Widdrington told the club’s official website: “I’m sure everyone connected with The Sports will be as pleased as I am with this news.
“Having firstly shown his commitment and then versatility when I first arrived, I feel his consistency levels were a major factor in him scooping the Supporters’ Player of The Year award last season.
“His effort and work rate wherever he played were excellent.”
Meanwhile, Widdrington has urged the club’s supporters to remain patient as the Sports’ backroom team work hard behind the scenes to secure new signings.
He added: “Whilst I understand the clamour for information by supporters I must stress the amount of work and patience needed behind the scenes to eventually get to this type of outcome.
“This process is often drawn out for mostly unforeseen circumstances, and as such periods of apparent inactivity with little news are actually times when many at the club are putting in long hours, and miles, working to secure signatures.
“As such I hope to have more positive news very soon so I hope fans will be patient and assured that we are all working towards the process of building the 2013/14 squad.”
