Dover are reportedly in pole position to re-sign Frannie Collin following his departure from Tonbridge Angels.
The former Gillingham striker left the Whites in 2010 and went on to score 38 goals in 65 appearances for his Kent side.
But he rejected a new contract offer from Angels boss Tommy Warrilow.
And while Ryman Premier side Maidstone United are also keen on the 26-year-old, boss Jay Saunders feels he is likely to miss out on the player.
Saunders told Kent Online: “I’ve had a little chat with Frannie but nothing’s agreed. I’ve made him an offer but he’s got lots of offers on the table.
“Dover have made him an offer. We’re Ryman Premier and when you’re competing with teams like that (in Conference South), you’re up against it.
“We’re not going to pay silly money, we’ll do things sensibly. I’ve put our case across and we’ll have to wait and see.”
